KTP is a type of green laser called potassium titanyl phosphate which allows the laser to target
hemoglobin in the blood vessels with minimal damage to the surrounding tissues. The laser
pulses quickly, heating up the vessels. After some time, the unwanted vessels disappear,
restoring your skin’s natural appearance. Due to the targeted treatment, KTP lasers have
minimal side effects.
Laser KTP is effective in breaking up age spots, freckles, cafe-au-lait spots, hemangioma
(vascular lesions or birthmarks), telangiectasia (broken blood vessels) and venous lake
(vascular lesion commonly found on the lip or ear). Once the laser breaks up the pigment, the
skin is cleared by the body within 7 – 10 days. The only usual side effect is superficial skin
crusting which rapidly heals.
It is safe for all skin tones, minimal discomfort and no down time providing great results.
Most patients have mild pain but certain areas are more sensitive, like the upper lip and nose.
Generally, 1-3 treatments are needed for complete results.
Results can last between three and five years after undergoing laser therapy. Many patients
maintain treatments by returning every so often for a touch-up or supplementary skin treatment.
Avoid direct sun exposure one week before and one week after laser treatment. This means a
hat and sunscreen (minimum 45 SPF) to cover treated areas.
